Rushmere Noach gives back to the community

On Thursday, 8th November we again hosted our popular annual "Movember" party in our boardroom, through which we create an opportunity to raise awareness about prostate cancer and  for our clients, friends and supporters to join us in raising funds for our event beneficiaries St Francis Hospice and CHOC.

The event started out as a small, fun get-together a few years ago and has grown tremendously to the extent that the firm, who match the funds raised by the event, is able to make a substantial donation to St Francis Hospice and CHOC.

The directors of Rushmere Noach have the greatest respect and appreciation for the amazing work done by the staff of St Francis Hospice and CHOC, and also feel a social responsibility to spread awareness about the most common cancer in men. “Early detection remains our strongest weapon”, says St Francis Hospice Executive Director, Trevor Wiblin, who delivered a very informative talk on prostate cancer to guests attending the Movember function, with a strong motivation and call to action for men to go for an annual prostate cancer test.  Women have an important role to play here too, by encouraging annual screening for the men in their lives; a must-do for men over the age of 45 as the early stages of this very common male cancer can have no noticeable symptoms.

Giving back to the community is not seen by Rushmere Noach as a once off event.  We strive to support local charitable organisations on a continual basis throughout the year as and when a need is identified and render our support to a variety of groups and causes, be it the elderly, children or animals, including organisations such as Animal Welfare Society Port Elizabeth, Northwood Childrens’ Home, PE Ladies Benevolent Society,  Missionvale Care Centre and Kariega Foundation - Save the Rhino to mention but a few.

Directors and staff alike were thrilled to again partner with Reach for a Dream, Port Elizabeth earlier this year to host dreamers, aged between six and nine years, for Mandela Day celebrations which this year coincided with Reach for a Dream’s 30thanniversary, in recognition of which we made a financial donation to them.

The firm has in the past also delivered much-needed books and delicious Easter treats to patients and staff at the Igazi Foundation Oncology Ward at the Provincial Hospital.  This gesture was in acknowledgement and recognition of the work done by the medical personnel at the Igazi Foundation and to uplift the patients in some small way.

"We at Rushmere Noach do what we can to raise funds and awareness, and give credit where it is due to the amazing foundations and personnel employed by the many charities in need, be it in the fight against cancer or to aid animals in need", Steve Gough, Managing Director, Rushmere Noach.
