On Saturday, 14 March 2020, Rushmere Noach Incorporated ("RNI") held the second Colin Rushmere Memorial Challenge ("CRMC") at the scenic 3 Rivers Trails at Crossways and host venue Crossways Country Kitchen.
The event is held annually in recognition of the contribution to RNI by the late Colin Rushmere and to support and raise awareness of the Kariega Foundation. The “Save the Rhino” project of the Kariega Foundation forms part of the legacy of the late Colin Rushmere and that of the Rushmere family who own Kariega Game Reserve and manage the Kariega Foundation.
Like last year’s inaugural event, the 2020 CRMC was a great success and enjoyed by all. The welcome rain of the previous week held off and it was a perfect, cool day for this event. We had many participants in the events – a 5km walk, a 10km run and a 30 km MTB route. The new 15 km MTB route was most popular and was well supported by a number of weekend warriors.
All routes were well marked, created with respect for the unique territory and mindful of the protection of the surrounding vegetation, while ensuring that most was made of the natural beauty of the surrounds. Host venue Crossways Country Kitchen provided a wide range of tasty refreshments which participants could enjoy under the shade of a large Bedoin-style tent with live background music in a relaxing and picturesque setting.
We are most grateful for the generosity of our event sponsors who again ensured well-stocked water tables, amazing lucky draws and raffle prizes galore. It is their generous support that helps RNI to keep this event FREE for our participants, ultimately enabling RNI to make a bigger donation to the Kariega Foundation.
The Kariega Foundation is a non-profit trust concerned with the upliftment of the local community, sustainable wildlife management and conservation; with a special focus on the “Save the Rhino” project, all of which are causes close to the hearts of all at RNI.
